CSAM

Appears to give x-ray like images, a sort of high resolution ultrasound like done to see babies before they are born

Appears samples are typically immersed in fluid to help with conduction

CSAM video says range used was "2.5MHz-260MHz". ie this is far out of human hearing range

Transducer

non-sonix tranducers for me to try to get my sonix system online

Many types of transducers out there, must be the focused type. ie don't get the straight beam time used for thickness measurements and such

AFAIK flaw detectors are not focused and so probably won't work

beware: some tranducers are marked for freq + focal length, some freq + diameter

There are a large number of Panametrics / Olympus NDT out there: [1]

  • Well really they are from one seller. By the looks of it they are from "Krautkramer Branson Incorporated

KB6000 Ultrasonic Test & Data Acquisition System"

  • Panametrics ultrasonic transducers - Olympus
  • NEW PANAMETRICS WTA-1 PROBE 1.0MHZ TRANSDUCER B331979
  • Olympus Harisonic transducers
  • Herrmann Ultrasonic Converter Konverter Tranducer 20kHz: too low freq?
  • Automation Industries Ultrasonic Transducer (5 pcs)
    • 10 mm 2.25 MHz
  • Olympus 20 MHz Contact Transducer M116-RM
  • OLYMPUS 20MHZ .125" M116-RM CONTACT TRANSDUCER U8400038 *NEW*
  • Automation Industries SMZ 2.25 MHz 90° R 57A3034 Ultrasonic Immersion Transducer

Olympus Harisonic

Part I purchased: Harisonic I2RA1004T 10 MHz .250"Dia 1.25" FOC Ultrasonic Immersion Transducer

  • I2: immersion type 2 transducer
  • RA: ?
  • 10: 10 MHz
  • 04: 04/16" => 1/4"
  • T: series?

Example Part Number: I3-0508-S-SU

  • I3: Transducer Type & Case. Ex: immersion type 3
  • 05: Frequency. Ex: 5 MHz
    • 00 = 0.5 MHz
    • 01 = 1.0 MHz
    • 02 = 2.25 MHz
    • 03 = 3.5 MHz
    • 05 = 5.0 MHz
    • 07 = 7.5 MHz
    • 10 = 10 MHz
    • 15 = 15 MHz
    • 20 = 20 MHz
    • 25 = 25 MHz
  • 08: element outer diameter 16th of inches. Ex: 8/16" = 1/2"
  • S: series. Ex: mediumband
    • S: "mediumband, medium damped, tuned transducers. They are used for general purpose flaw detection, and represent a compromise between high sensitivity and high resolution."
    • R: "broadband, highly damped, tuned transducers. They are used for high resolution, near and far surface flaw detection, and thickness gaging applications"
    • P: "narrowband, lightly damped, tuned transducers. They have high-energy output and penetrating power, but have limited resolving power"
  • SU: Connector Type & Location. Ex: straight UHF
    • SM = Straight Microdot
    • RM = Right Angle Microdot
    • SU = Straight UHF
    • RU = Right Angle UHF

Immersion

"Immersion transducers are specifically designed to test parts partially or wholly immersed in water"

Immersion types have different focus configurations

303 stainless steel housing

Exsample: I3-0308-R-SU-F2.50IN

  • F: focus type
    • F: spherical focus. For scanning planes
    • CF: cylindrical focus: focuses on a line. For scanning cylinders
  • 2.50IN: 2.5" focal length (in water)

"i-1 and i-2 Style Housings: 0.25 inches (6 mm) diameter elements with 0.375 inches (10 mm) housings"

  • Frequency: 2.25 - 25 MHz
  • Focus: 0.35 - 5.25"
