Olympus BH2-UMA
This has many parts. See the BH-2 page for a list of accessories. Comes with slider blanks so that dust doesn't get in.
Removing cubes
The cubes have a (6-32?) threaded part. The illuminator should have a black screw/knob on the side for this but commodity screws can be used if its missing. Thread the screw in and gently pull the cube out.
Calibration procedure
Notes for calibrating CNC microscope to get optimal images and maximum light output
First read "BH2-UMA Universal Veritcal Illuminator Instruction Manual". It details the following alignments:
- Centering light source (pg 21)
- With and without centering screen
- Centering screen enlarges image to make it a little easier
- Centering field iris diaphragm (pg 22)
- Adjusting field iris diaphragm (pg 23)
- Adjusting aperature iris diaphragm (pg 23)

- BH2-TR30 observation tube
- LH50A lamphouse
- Mitutoyo M Plan Apo objectives
- Special issue microscope body
- Custom built stage
Adjustments / degredation sources:
- Lamphouse can be rolled by loosening screw on side and turning it
- Lamp can be moved a in/out by turning screw on side
- Lamp can be moved a little more in/out by loosening screw on side
- Lamp can be tilted up/down by loosening screw on side
- Objective can be misaligned if rail is not in entirely
- DIC prisms can cause misalignment based on collet position
- Stage can be uneven for variety of machined surfaces not being tight
- BH2-UMA may not be aligned to observation tube...issue?
- BH2-UMA may not be centered from the two setscrews on the sides
- BH2-UMA has pinhole centering screws
- BH2-UMA has iris centering screws
- Cube misalignment/issues?
- Prism misalignment in observation tube?
- Camera not stable in observation tube
- BH2-UMA to observation tube misalignment
- Wrong lamphouse bulb
